The road to stardom is often paved with amazing and devastating public and private events. Whether it’s a turbulent family drama, harrowing substance abuse, outlandish spending habits or a combination of those and more, these celebrities all paid a hefty price for their fame. Giving viewers an intimate perspective on each story are personal accounts from the celebrity’s family members and friends in addition to entertainment journalists who covered the rise, fall and sometimes rise again of the stars.

A comedic renegade of the 1980s, Eddie Murphy trail blazed the way for African American comedians as the first black leading member on Saturday Night Live and starring in Hollywood blockbusters like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and Trading Places. In the ‘90s, Murphy was at the height of his career, famously partying with Rick James and Prince. While married to model Nicole, Murphy was busted for soliciting a prostitute. Murphy would eventually have nine children with various women, including one with Mel B of the Spice Girls. Today, Eddie Murphy seems content with his life and largely refrains from the Hollywood spotlight.

A look inside the success and struggles of actor and comedian Eddie Murphy.

Told through scripted drama reconstructions and exclusive interviews with those who know him.
