Healing is based on a true account and poems by South African artist, Edwin Kemp.
When Rhona Murray is raped on her way home from school her life, and that of those around her falls to pieces. Healing is an inspiring story of how poetic words of hope, courage, and strength can overcome fear, hurt, pain and violation. When we can't find the words we hope will ease the pain, one man's word-power is able to express in a few poetic lines what the vast passage of normal diction cannot.
I adapted and produced this short film, as well as writing the title song Healing Words - performed by Swedish singer Gerda Liljeholm (winner, best song, Concrete Dream Film Festival). The film was broadcast on Genesis/Revelation TV where it formed the central topic for an episode of the talk show Live@Nine. The live studio phone-in included a guest from Rape Crisis UK, as well as Edwin Kemp himself who joined on the phone.
Healing was filmed on location in Southend On Sea, UK.
