SHOW TUNES & SIESTA'S
It's been five weeks since I left Dallas for what will be a one or two year spell in Spain. After focusing on finding the right school for my two boys and searching for a new family home in Madrid, I am very much looking forward to putting my writing room back together (when our container finally arrives) and getting back to business.
In my downtime, I have been working with a fantastic music arranger on the seven numbers from Broadway or Bust. Eleven years after I first started writing the piece it is very satisfying to hear the music come to life. Four of the numbers are brand new, replacing older tunes which I thought could be improved upon. The next phase is to get into a studio with some fab singers and lay down the vocals on what will be a demo recording for producers.
I have also been busy re-writing Maxine, extending it from the ten minute play which was performed in New York last month, to a 30 minute piece which will be performed in London in November.
In The Tall Grass is still very much a work in progress, following the fab R&D period in May I am still working on the next draft of the play, while reaching out to new contributors. A video featuring footage from the rehearsal room and interviews with the cast, director Anna Jones (and me!) is also being cut together at the moment, ready for the next stage of development. I look forward to sharing that soon.
Finally, I have been speaking with some exciting venues about delivering across the UK about delivering new workshops and courses in 2017.
